Our guest tonight was Lillee Allee.
As we waited for our guest, Ceiling Cat Barbara Duncan and I discussed the disappointing Michael Dougherty movie Krampus. I'd just gotten into speaking of the Krampus-like aspects of the brilliant horror comedy Rare Exports when Lillee arrived.
Lillee started out indicated Krampus's original name was Krampan which means "claw"... and that KrampusNacht is a night of come-uppance.
Being of German descent, Lillee grew up with Krampus, yet was admonished not to discuss it. Apparently Krampus's origins is two thousand years ago.
She spoke of the live Krampus celebrations around the country, and Europe, which actually are a positive event and celebration.
She mentioned a William Shatner film called A Christmas Horror Story, which I realized I had to check out, and that it is on Netflix...
She mentioned a weird song There's Something in the Chimney.
We concurred that Krampus is twisted version of the forest fertility Deity Pan.
Lillee also recommended a little known film Mother Krampus.
She suspects that The Grinch is really about Krampus.
We discussed aspects of The Wizard of Oz, my favourite movie (and book series).
CC reported listeners tonight in the United States, the United Kingom, Scotland, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Norway.
She mentioned Krampus Con, which while predictably cancelled this year, claims it will return for 2021.
Comically, Lillee's phone notifications would go off, its ringtone being Samantha's Nose Twitch sound effect.
We spoke of other aspects of Krampus, such as his minions, the Perchtenlauf, and the Yule Goat.
Aspects of the Christian celebrations of Christmas, such as holiday trees, being based in the original pagan traditions.
As Lillee discuss the magick of the holidays, CC pointed out on 21 December (Yule!), to look to the Southwest for the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, in their closest encounter since 1226 CE.
She related the 4th century origins of the hanging of stockings at the chimney; the Bishop Nicholas sneaking in to a man's home, filling the stockings with gold.
A question from the chat room was about leaving out Schnapps for Krampus, which Lillee confirmed as accurate.
Discussing families creating their own family traditions, leading me to convey my family favourite Christmas Walnut Story that my grandmother would annually relate.
