Jeff Wilson and Ohio Legends
Tonight we had as our guest author
Jeff Wilson,
of
Ohio Legends,
Volume 3,
(and previously discussed),
Volume 2,
and
Volume 1
I
got in a bit late, as my PC was acting up big time.
He spoke about his illustrations, each story having a persponally line-drawing in his books, that often relatives of Interesting People Jeff was researching would give Jeff photos from which he could draw faces and such.
Henry
wondered if other states were handled similarly to Jeff's books; I pointed out
Weird NJ
covering some other states as well
(specifically
Weird Minnesota,
Weird Oregon,
Weird Wisconsin
and
Weird New Jersey
obvious).
Jeff spoke of being in the
previous week's
show with guest author
Don Allison,
and how impressed Jeff was/is with Don's book's title
I Met a Ghost in Gettysburg.
Jeff spoke of
Margaret Shilling
who was an inmate of
The Ridges
an asylum that, as with every other closed asylum's that
Travel Channel
ghost hunter shows visit, things went horribly for its "patients."
Margaret Shilling went missing, and decades later she was found in an unused area on the top floor.
She'd locked herself in a room and had died of a heart attach, but was so decomposed her bodily fluids had left a permanent stain on the concrete floor.
Ceiling Cat Barbara Duncan
pointed out Jeff's book also busted a few myths, such as the first manufacture of microwave ovens was in Ohio.
We discussed the origins of
Mattel's
classic
Magic 8-Ball
"fortune telling" toy with its
icosahedron
20-sided die.
We spoke about the fact that Ohio had the very first Traffic Light, the discovery of a complete mastadon skeleton, the mysterious Adena Artifact discovered in 1841, even the Alliance Ohio
Troll Hole
store that specializes in the 1960s
Troll dolls.
He spoke of his personal ghost experience; in the basement of the former
Kettering Tower,
opening a document drop box.
As he rode up the elevator to the lobby, there was security and custodial crew.
As he went to use the door, there was a small person Just Watching Jeff, which suddenly was Gone.
We discussed
Helltown
and some of the
many strange
aspects.
The time running down, we touched on the
Turkeyfeet Creek treasure
and Miamisberg Cemetery ghost stories.
Henry conveyed our guest
next week
would be
Thomas Wertman.
Almost forgot to have CC convey our having listeners tonight in the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, and Spain, which we tossed out at the last moment.
