Favour
I'd been contacted by my friend
David Lautman,
with whom I'd worked on the feature
Live-In Fear
in Utah back in February.
He and his friend
Charles Dewandeler
were doing a spoof short for online and he wanted to know if I was available and/or interested.
With their informal group
Spoof Troupe,
the two collaborate on shorts online, including but not limited to David's new web series
I'm With Stupid,
a
recent episode
in which my friend
Maria
had guest starred.
As I was available Sunday and it was for a friend, I accepted and received the copy of the satire script in which actor
Jack Nicholson
tries to convince some studio suits he should be hired to portray the Joker in the
The Dark Knight Rises
feature
(Nicholson was played by
Juan Perez)
The cast also included
Myles Cranford
(also from
Live-In Fear),
Dan Braswell,
Alicia Dox
and
Batel Hubashi.
David was able to wrangle an office conference room from Universal, the building's entrance hidden in plain sight on CityWalk.
I got to Charles's place and rode there with him and Batel when she arrived.
We met up with the others at the Universal Studios parking lot, and while initially we had the office space from 3-6pm, David was able to get that extended a bit.
It was a single camera shoot; after a master shot, Charles did each of our coverage and close-ups, and we were able to do some improv if/where applicable during our coverage and such.
I had a couple of lines.
Once done, it was speculated of a grassroots viral marketing, leading people
(and hopefully, the press),
to find and view the short, due to its "headline'esque" title
A special effect was to be utilized
(I won't specify the spoiler, but it'll be visible when the finished and uploaded video online is embedded below),
and as it was clear all of our reactions had been filmed and the only shots would contain David and Juan, most of us were wrapped at a bit after 6pm.
I hiked down to the Red Line, with which I'm quite accustomed, and got home well in time for that evening's episode of
The Amazing Race...
