Shoot
After getting home from work the previous day, I received a call from my Calling Service that the following day I was booked to work
another episode
of the famous crime series
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,
this time playing a college teacher.
The initial calltime was 12:30pm, but on checking before turning in, this was pushed to 1:30pm.
I bused straight from work up to Glendale, arriving early enough to catch a large charter-bus to accomodate the nearly hundred people being used for the day.
We were taken to the
city hall
where holding turned out to be a room that barely fit us all, when the rest arrived.
Thankfully we were brought to set relatively quickly: the open air courtyard doubling for a college campus Commons Area.
The college for the show was WLVU, several of the younger background wearing WLVU shirts and such, and large banners were across the lower balcony above us.
One of the younger men recognized me from
Strictly Background,
having attended a screening in Long Beach some time ago, attended by
Jason
obviously, but also
John Richards
and
Terry Bolo,
puzzling me as to why I was not notified of such...
unless I had been and was unavailable and have simply forgotten.
The fellow also pointed out he bought the
(normally-priced $20)
DVD at Big Lots... for about three bucks.
What with learning I had missed attending a screening with a Q&A, I found this new immensely amusing
(and realized I'd best check out Big Lots for such low-cost copies...).
Having come across my friend
Max Huber
with whom I'd worked on
Born To Be a Star
amongst others he and I cannot exactly recall,
he and I sort of stuck together, our playing college teachers.
He also offered and did drive me home when we wrapped.
Michelle told us the episode
(#1022)
was titled
Doctor Who...!
I immediately texted this irony to my
Doctor Who
friends, who understandably thought it was hilarious.
At the time, particularly with the camera so far away, it was impossible to know at the time if I would be visible; I'd have to wait it aired.
Michelle also told us this was scheduled to air May 13th, the first of a two-parter that'd be the season finale.
We did not get any overtime, and in fact fifteen volunteers were requested to stay while the rest were wrapped before dusk.
Max and I stayed, which was both a good idea
(skipping the 5pm rush hour traffic back to the Valley),
and a bad idea
(we were never used and the crew still broke from 6:30-7pm for a Walk Away lunch).
With no places for me really to eat nearby, I just bought some bread at the nearby Ralphs as at home I knew I was out.
The scene/s shot involved
Laurence Fishburne's
character Langston seemingly meeting up with another character played by character actor
Jeff Perry.
The crew was efficient and fast, and went though various angles for each scene quite quickly.
There may have been three or more little scenes at the patio location, but I was far enough away to have no idea as to what was transpiring beyond that of seemingly simple conversations between characters, when I could see them at all.
