The Apology of Love
Anton Khan's
New York Film Academy Student Film

Tuesday June 12, 2012
Audition and cast
I had submitted for a New York Film Academy project The Apology of Love, and received an audition invitation along with a copy of the dark-humoured script. In the posting, the project's writer/director Anton Khan had indicated the plan having it being submitted to numerous film festivals.
I arrived at the alternate New York Film Academy location for the audition with time to spare, as always, however realizing I did not know in which room it was being held; neither did the girl at reception. As it was, I was retrieved by Lina Giraldo and brought back to meet with Anton, as well as met Eléa Clair, the actress playing the lead. It would be a quick bit: a helpful neighbour with some action and one line (possibty more, if we improvize at the shoot on the day), as I help the young lady get a couple of bulky items into her car's trunk.
Anton later contacted me, offering me the role of the neighbour, filming the subsequent Monday.

Shoot
I arrived at the Valley Village location spot-on time for my 1pm calltime. They'd been shooting the project's conclusion the day before up beyond Palm Springs. The house being used for this day's shoot was purchased by its owner back in the 1940s and its owner maintains it, albeit empty, renting it out for film shoots.
One of the shots had been revised to include me in another scene, not just the one, the new version having more of a slight foreshadowing aspect. As for the "regular" scene, with which I'd auditioned, Anton set up a rather amusing camera move that should come across quite comical, and possibly a bit unsettling. As we'd discussed, Anton wanted me to have another line, and he accepted my line suggestion I'd thought up, which is what we used.
I was surprised to learn that three of the project were all French: Anton, Eléa (who is Anton's wife), and 1st AD Elodie Cammarata ("despite" Elodie having more of a UK accent than French).
Anton told me the screening would be early July, most likely a rough if solid work cut. Once he returns from France he'll polish it up for film festivals.

Fabio
I got a text from Fabio that Anton had recommened me for his short film The List, filming Saturday the 23rd. As I wouldn't be needed until 3:30pm I'd have time in the morning to get a new computer (as my ancient one would get a perfect signal but none of the browsers would connect to the Internet), however, it would also negate my co-hosting my weekly radio show.

More at its own report page, but as I worked on the New York Film Academy student film The List, for which Anton had recommended me, it turned out Anton was one of the principal actors in it...! We did my scene in which I am stabbed by Anton...

Anton emailed us that The Apology of Love was almost done, that the screening would Saturday, July 7th at 1:15 at the New York Film Academy, in the room is Orson Wells room on the fifth floor.
Anton reminded is this was not the final version but it would be more than a rough cut.

Pretty good rough cut...
As my bus approached Barham, I got a call from Jeffery Allen Williams regarding his project Everything, set to start filming "in the fall," having evolved from a short pretty much to feature film length. We discussed it until I got to my destination (greeted by Eléa as she arrived and went in), and once the room was filled, they started with a trailer of the six shorts being shown that been made in their honour, as it were. First up was Ravanche, the film on which I had just worked the previous Sunday, under the former title The List.
After Marcelo's film Storage (spelled Storage in the little program), The Apology of Love screened.
The single pan shot of my seemingly teleporting from the sidewalk to Right Behind Eléa was removed, but retained was my disappearance in her midsentence.
As to the other films, Anton and other film makers tended to star in most of them. This may have been due to in part, one of the directors admitting having posted casting online, and having "no one show up," mostly as no information was provided as to the audition's location, etc.
After the films were screened, the film makers were brought to the front where each received their respective New York Film Academy diplomas. Anton told me he and Eléa are returning to France at the end of July and that he'd get to my a copy of the film as soon as possible, and agreed to work at getting a copy of the "opening trailer" for me as well (as I pop up in it throughout the fast cuts).
I managed to make it to the bus stop with five minutes to spare to get me back to Hollywood without having to wait a full hour for the following one.

Checking my IMDB entry, I came across that Apology of Love now has its own entry.
