Irish Folklore and Tales, with Tinamarie Ronan and Cat Snider Gasche
Henry all but introduced our guests Tinamarie Ronan, and Cat Snider Gasche, without my doing the bio I had ready for them.
Cat explained the distinction between a proper vine shamrock and the wood sorrel shamrock we recognize, which is actually a grass version.
Henry brought up the famous fae folk Leprechaun; The guests and I couldn't resist refering to the silly seven film Leprechaun movie franchise.
Henry spoke about a poem by Yeats about a woman who had been given the Come Hither, who was returned seven years later, with her toes missing as she had danced so much she had worn them off...
A question from the live chat room asked if Leprechauns are elementals; we concurred they generally were earth elementals after a fashion.
Tinamarie discussed Irish Stew, into which Guinness stout must be used for it to be "valid" Irish Stew... Ceiling Cat Barbara Duncan indicated her recipe contains soy sauce.
So wrapped up in our discussion, we overrode over our regular first break, taking a single break at the halfway point where we normall have our second break. Upon our return, CC reported out having listeners tonight in the US, the UK, Canada, and Dubin, Ireland.
Tinamarie discussed Irish movies, such as The Quiet Man, My Left Foot, Far and Away, Circle of Friends, Angela's Ashes, Hunger, Ondine, Leap Year, and Brooklyn.pooka
I discussed one of my top favourite live action Disney films: Darby O'Gill and the Little People. with, considering it referencing a Pooka, I got to reference
Harvey.
Cat spoke about a 2005 paranormal experience she had in Scotland; she encountered a possible cait Sidhe (pronounced "caught shee"). Near Edinburgh, she heard what she thought was a cat fight. She headed out to the parking lot and saw what she thought was a cow calf, as she still heard the screeching of the cat. She tried to verbally stop what she thoughtw as the fight, while the creature began to growl. Suddenly she could see something Dark, as tall of her waist, and it headed towards the fence of the road. Running inside, up to her room, her friend and she looked out and saw the dark shadowy being leap the fence. Later research she could only come across was the cat sith.
Cat spoke about her 1992 stay at haunted Ashford Castle in Cong.
