Reports from the set/s...
The Perfect Game

Wednesday and Saturday, July 25 and 28, 2007
Two days of Long Beach sun
I was booked to work Wednesday on the feature film The Perfect Game, which ended up recalling a bunch of us Saturday the 28th as well. The film is directed by William Dear (who helmed such films as Timerider and Harry and the Hendersons), and currently has a scheduled released date of August 08 2008.
While principal cast member Cheech Marin was never on hand the two days on which I worked it, on Saturday was Louis Gossett Jr.
While the scene on which I worked was set in Louisville, Kentucky, the film as a whole is set in 1957, depicting the true story of the unexpected Little League World Series win by a young Mexican team.
As with most film shoots, a lot was hurry up and wait... this time only outdoors in the sun. The very hot sun....
Strangely (and not to just a few of the background, annoyingly), what would be/should have been the SAG Craft Services was relegated as for "crew only." It is said there was some complaint reports to SAG as on Saturday we no longer had the Crafty people furiously demanding we leave alone the beverages and food stuffs (insisting we make due with the Water Only way back at holding [which was far from where we were shooing], consisting of a bowl of small pretzels, a bit of fruit, and later in the day... a few loaves of bread and a couple of jars of peanut butter and jelly...).
Along with those in the bench stands, unless we're substantially out of focus, we should be seen to be bi-locating and teleporting all over the place [bg]. Each day of shooting we got some good overtime and very nice mileage bumps.
Also on background was Coco Leigh with whom I worked on the Sarah Silverman Program earlier in the month, Dennis Nowicki, who (as well as real estate), it turns out, is a coin appraiser, amongst other things, and his numismatism kept enthralled several background artists who were interested in various old coins they may possess. A fellow film fanatic, and fellow fan of Harry Potter and MST3K, Dennis was kind enough to drive me from the Long Beach location to the Blue Line, so I wouldn't have to wait up to 56 minutes for the bus to get me back there. Also on hand was the friendly trio comprised of Mackenzie McGahee, Scarlett Johansson lookalike Amber-Rose Coates and Jessica Alba lookalike Madison Adkins, all "wrangled" by the pleasant Kim Stryker, who indicated one photo of them she took clearly Has Me In It, and obtained my permission to use it, "in exchange for which" to send/email me a copy of it (she never did). I think it was Amber-Rose who indicated being a huge fan of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. As it turns out my episode Going for the Gold was set to air the following Tuesday evening, July 31, I was able to let her know where to watch for me (e.g., my being in the red jumpsuit).

Almost four years later...
My friend Debi notified me that The Perfect Game had its red carpet premier this evening at the Grove, and that it finally had a theatrical release date: April 16, 2010.

A Perfect Movie
I went to the 11:30am showing of The Perfect Game at the CityWalk AMC. Even if I were not visible (and I am), this was one of the more uplifting films, not merely as an underdog-winning baseball film, but its handling of 1957 racism as well.
I'll have to frame-grab from the DVD as to where best to see me, but I'm seen a couple or more times in the Louisville game stands, front row far bench-left so I can be seen watching a hit, and looking up following the struck ball.
It's definitely a film to see, and recommend.
