One to three to one
Terrance of
Bill Dance Casting
called me the day before to see if I was available the next day for a film apparently titled
Green Hat,
though in actually, not so much being its actual title.
I was told I would be playing a high school teacher, and that originally it was to be Wednesday and possibly Thursday, but they upped it to Tuesday, implying it could be a two to three day gig.
As my day-job temp assignment had ended two Fridays previously, I assured him I was 100% available all three days
(and beyond).
Terrance told me it'd be shooting at
Pacific Palisades High School,
"just west" of UCLA... though mta.net confirmed my thoughts that in fact the school was very close to the ocean.
Terrance knew the calltime would be "about" 10am, from which I knew I'd have little to no trouble getting there by public transit.
I called later and the recorded hotline information provided the calltime and such.
I called again just before turning in to learn, as Terrance had slightly implied, that the calltime was pushed, now to 11:30am.
So much for overtime, I correctly suspected.
Catching the 761 to UCLA and from there the #2 Sunset bus, I arrived at the high school at about 10:50 for the 11:30am calltime.
Surprisingly, catering had breakfast set out... possibly the
very worst
scrambled eggs I have had the displeasure to taste.
Thankfully their hash and bacon was fine.
We were signed in at 11:30am, the PAs and such pre-filling out bits of our vouchers "for us"
(a wholly unnecessary practice that I tolerate but intensely dislike).
Wardrobe loved my blue shirt and brown tie, and I didn't have to wear my jacket, and they had me leave on my glasses
(the "professorial" look and such).
Despite even the Crew Parking signs indicated Green Hat,
it turned out that
(currently)
the film's title is
Project X.
I'd later learn from one of the background-wrangling PAs that the stars of this "secret" project are
all unknowns.
Essentially the day consisted of crosses whilst whatever was going on was going on.
I tended to "meet up" with a fellow teacher named Greg, sporting a brown outfit and a near
Zach Galifianakis
style beard.
I also met up with lovely
Selina MacDonald,
closely resembling a tall
Katie Holmes.
Lunch was called spot on time, and to our disappointment, the category of teachers were not recalled for the subsequent day/s.
Selina and I had been chatting throughout our time between takes, and as it turned out she lived extremely close to me, she agreed to drive me home... but she was amongst those not being wrapped at the seven hour mark as were most of the rest of us
(including but not limited to the four teachers).
However, as I was packing up, young
Kevin Blanch
and I struck up conversing as he'd noticed I was re-reading
Harry Potter:
I was going through
The Deathly Hallows
again, just as he was going through
The Chamber of Secrets
again.
Kevin lived in Ontario and noticing Sherman Oaks was east as well
(as is pretty much everything from Pacific Palisades),
he offered to drive me home once we wrapped.
It was my first time in a
SmartCar,
which was quite an impressive vehicle, and I remain extremely appreciative of his generousity in providing me with a lift home.
